Persona Everyware rassemble les œuvres de huit artistes ou duo d’artistes autour des questions du bien commun, de l’anonymat ou encore de la (dé)construction de l’identité à l’ère du numérique. Vidéos, installations et dessins se déploieront dans les espaces de l’Hôtel Rochegude. Attentifs à la place qu’occupent dans la vie contemporaine les technologies numériques, le développement de l’intelligence artificielle et le recours aux réseaux sociaux, nombre d’artistes sondent les enjeux de ces nouveaux outils et pratiques de communication. En multipliant les appareils connectés à notre disposition, l’informatique ubiquitaire, ou everyware (contraction de everywhere et hard/software) pour reprendre la formule d’Adam Greenfield, a facilité pour chacun l’accès à l’information partout et en continu. Elle a également participé à accélérer l’émission et la diffusion de textes, d’images ou de vidéos à caractère plus ou moins personnel. Elle permet d’exprimer une opinion, d’échanger, de critiquer mais aussi, d’une certaine manière, d’« imprimer » les mouvements de la société. La masse de données échangées chaque jour dessine ainsi un environnement médiatique et « infosphérique », dont l’intensité affecte et reconfigure sans cesse nos réalités et nos identités. Les artistes de l’exposition Persona Everyware s’emparent ou manipulent cet amas de données et d’affects, travaillent avec (et parfois contre), tentent de les rendre (in)visibles, de redonner une voix ou une présence physique à des contenus trop souvent considérés comme immatériels. Il s’agit pour eux de mettre en perspective le potentiel esthétique, poétique ou performatif de nos interactions quotidiennes. En abordant Internet, et en particulier les réseaux sociaux, autant comme le lieu d’une expression subjective ou d’une écriture de soi que comme un espace public et une scène de théâtre, elles interrogent les rapports que l’individu entretient avec sa propre image et la société. Se dessinent alors les relations subtiles entre un « je » et un « nous » qui ne cessent de se reconfigurer l’un par rapport à l’autre. De ce theatrum mundi tout en flux et jalonné d’écrans, surgissent ici et là les visages masqués de quelques persona, à travers lesquels se croisent et s’hybrident l’intime et le collectif, le privé et le public, le réel et la fiction, le sensible et la technologie.

Persona Everyware brings together the works of eight artists and artist twosomes around issues to do with the common good, anonymity, and “depersonification’ in the digital age: videos, installations, and drawings will all be on view in the rooms at the Hôtel Rochegude. Many artists, who are keenly aware of the place occupied in contemporary life by the digital technologies, the development of artificial intelligence [AI] and the use of social networks, are exploring the challenges of these new communication tools and practices. By increasing the amount of apparatus connected to our disposition, ubiquitous computer technology, or ‘everyware’ (a contraction of everywhere and hard/software), to borrow Adam Greenfield’s term, has made it easier for all of us to have access to information and data, everywhere and all the time. Everyware has also played a part in speeding up the transmission and distribution of texts, images, and videos of a more or less personal nature. It makes it possible to express an opinion, exchange views, and criticize, as well, in a certain way, as “printing” the movements of society. The huge volume of data exchanged on a daily basis thus traces a media- and “infosphere-“related environment, whose intensity is forever influencing and reconfiguring our realities and our identities. The artists in the exhibition Persona Everyware appropriate and handle this mass of data and affects, work with (and at times against) them, try and make them (in)visible, and restore a voice and a physical presence to contents that are too often regarded as immaterial. What is involved, for them, is lending perspective to the aesthetic, poetic and performative potential of our everyday interactions. In dealing with the Internet, and with the social networks in particular, as much as an arena of a subjective mode of expression or a form of ‘self-writing’ as a public space and a stage, they question the relations that the individual has with his own image and society. Subtle relations are thus made between an “I” and a “we”, which are being constantly reconfigured in relation to each other. From this theatrum mundi, which is in a total state of flux and staked out by screens, there emerge here and there the masked faces of one or two personae, through which the intimate and the collective, the private and the public, reality and fiction, and sensibility and technology overlap and merge.
